It's All An Illusion!

Raveena has been searching for meaning to life for nearly 25 years. During this period she studied various scriptures and self-help/personal transformation books in her quest for the truth. Holistic healing is another area of interest to her, and she is a trained Reiki and Reconnective Healing practitioner.

A few years ago she was led to A Course in Miracles (ACIM) which caused her to do a 180 degree turn in her beliefs and in her perspective on life. The central teaching of ACIM is that the physical body and the world of form are illusions. Only the spirit is real and only the spirit has been created by God. She decided to write a book about this and to compare this belief system with others.

In a recent e/booster interview with Raveena Nash, she said that her goals in life had changed quite dramatically in recent years. Her main concern now is to awaken from the dream or the illusion in which we are all immersed. She would also like to help others to awaken too, and that was the reason why she decided to write It's All An Illusion!

Raveena has a London University Honours degree in economics and her first job was as a mathematics teacher in a secondary school. Then she left teaching and went to work in the media for around 15 years. She lived overseas at the time and worked in the field of radio and television news. She also wrote articles for a weekly newspaper. At present Raveena works in a secondary school teaching children who have learning and behavioural difficulties.

It's All An Illusion! explores the topic of illusion from the perspective of A Course in Miracles and compares it with the Buddhist and Hindu views on the same subject. Topics covered include, among other things, the creation of the universe; the concept of being trapped in time; the ego's tools of sickness, pain and death; the deviousness of the ego and how to overcome it; the One Mind; forgiveness and enlightenment.

The author visited a Hindu centre in London and spoke with a member of the Saraswati monastic order. She also visited two Buddhist centres and discussed the topics of illusion, detachment, contemplation and enlightenment with Buddhist monks there. And she interviewed a prominent A Course in Miracles teacher in London.

It's All An Illusion! is aimed at all those who are searching for meaning in life and who are trying to make sense out of a seemingly meaningless world. It has the aim of clarifying some of the teachings of A Course in Miracles and showing that forgiveness is one of the paths that will lead us out of the world of illusion and takes us back Home.

A passage from It's All An Illusion!:

"....I see ACIM as being the Path of Forgiveness because when we realise that everything in the phenomenal world is an illusion, then we realise that all human beings are simply puppets ruled by an illusory, vulnerable and grasping ego. We are therefore not really to blame for our selfish thoughts, words and deeds because we know no better. However, upon awakening and becoming more conscious individuals, we gradually begin to overcome the ego, maybe initially at the subconscious level, but later it will inevitably be at the conscious level too. So we forgive people who are selfish, unkind, cruel, etc., because we recognise all those traits in ourselves and because we know it is not really their divine inner portion (or the “right” portion of their minds) that is acting this way. (We also have to learn how to forgive ourselves). We don't condone their deeds but we understand that they stem from the illusory ego and not from the divine spark within.

There's another way of looking at forgiveness. Since we made this whole world up and everything in it and it isn't really happening although it appears to be, then there's nothing to forgive. It may appear to be that someone offended me, stole from me, attacked me, but in reality that never happened, so all I can do is be aware of this and realise that there is nothing to forgive. “Forgiveness ends the dream of conflict here”

....What makes the teachings of ACIM very special, in my opinion, is that they are positive, uplifting, encouraging and motivating. There is no emphasis on suffering, sacrifice, renunciation or difficult thought-stopping meditation. All we are asked to give up is illusion—the unreal. Lesson 322 states, “I can give up but what was never real” and it goes on to explain that we sacrifice illusions and only illusions. “And as illusions go I find the gifts illusions tried to hide, awaiting me in shining welcome, and in readiness to give God's ancient message to me.” And in the Text we read, “There is no need to learn through pain. And gentle lessons are acquired joyously, and are remembered gladly. What gives you happiness you want to learn and not forget...”

It is made quite clear in the Course, however, that until we give up our belief in the body as being something real, we will not achieve salvation...."

Demons In The CrawlSpace

Frank Salvato is a middle‐aged, divorced, homicide cop who is forced to join the world of tortured souls when his little boy is abducted and murdered. He battles with his own demons, namely loneliness, paranoia and nearly uncontrolled cynicism which spirals into a limitless willingness to bend the law to get the bad guy. Salvato is thrust into his own torment when summoned to investigate the disappearance of two little girls from a local day care center. The abduction shortly turns into a murder case when these little girls are found mutilated, raped and in a shallow grave in the crawl space of an abandoned house. Like any good, experienced cop, Salvato sifts through colorful witnesses and hurdles evidentiary and legal barriers to discover that a post‐teen sociopath and his retarded cohort are the likely culprits. This journey forces Salvato to wrestle with child molestation, his own domestic violence experience and even satanic ritual abuse. Through horrid and fantastical dreams, Salvato discovers that he has internalized the external forces that conspired to pull him into this case.

"Demons" is a psychological thriller wrapped around a murder mystery. It takes the reader through the tunnels of chilling possibilities in identifying the culprit of this terrible crime. Chicago Warriors Midnight Battles in the Windy City

Chicago Police Officer Pete Shannon and his wife, Beth, are at odds.

Pete wants to start a family; Beth does not. Pete is unaware that Beth's reluctance stems from an affair that she had while on a business trip to Milwaukee. That affair, although lasting just one night, ended in a miscarriage. As Pete continues to press her on the matter, it causes Beth to turn into herself to for an escape. She finds solace in alcohol and anorexia.

Meanwhile Pete and his partner Joe O'Hara, both of whom have been inseparable since their high school days at St. Laurence, and serving together in the Army, have found themselves promoted to the 8th District Tactical (TAC) Team. Their new positions allow them greater flexibility in investigating major crime in the Chicago Lawn District. They soon befriend two prostitutes, Blaz and Deelilah, who provide them with information on two ruthless thugs that have been committing home invasions on the South Side of Chicago.

Officer Sal Rosato, known as “The Hammer,” is a rogue cop. Rosato's been involved in several shootings and beatings of suspects. He has been busted down from the rank of sergeant to police officer. When Pete and Joe are promoted to the Tac Team, The Hammer takes umbrage with the assignment feeling that it should have been him. He goes out of his way to make life uncomfortable for Shannon and O'Hara. One night Pete and Joe arrest Rosato's girlfriend, Sally, for DUI. This infuriates Sal to the point of vowing to take revenge on his two colleagues.

Later, sufficient information is gathered to obtain arrest warrants for the Devil Man and his partner for the home invasions, but before they can be served a deadly confrontation takes place where both the Devil Man and Pete's' partner, Joe, are both killed. Pete must do some introspection—should he stay on the force or change careers? Having turned to his faith all of his life, he again asks God for direction.

Soon afterward Pete is teamed with a new partner—Officer Marlene Benson, a street smart, tactically sound cop that's into fitness and bodybuilding. She has previously entered the Miss Illinois contest, but did not win. She has vowed to win it this year, training hard with her workout partner—Kim, a Chicago Firefighter. Marlene and Pete hit it off instantly and go on to make a number of good arrests.

Pete's career is sailing along; his personal life is not. Beth finally admits her infidelity to him, and both decide on a temporary separation. Beth's reckless behavior, her drinking and dramatic weight loss, finally cause her to seek help from their parish priest—Father Mike. She confesses to him and surrenders to God, finally able to forgive herself and therefore she is able to be forgiven.

Shortly after Pete and Beth reconcile, Pete and Marlene are called to a warehouse break-in. The Hammer is also on the scene; Rosato shoots both the offender and Pete, but claims that Pete was shot by the bad guy. Ultimately the truth is determined about the shooting and Rosato is indicted and pleads guilty.

Marlene finds herself wanting to re-discover her own faith, thanks to working with Pete. She sees how comfortable Pete is with his Christianity and is drawn back to the Catholic Church. She befriends a neighbor, Leslie, who reinforces in her the power of prayer. Marlene examines her life and decides to change some things, one of which is her relationship with Gary. Gary is a bouncer/bodybuilder. Unknown to Marlene he has a questionable background, having been involved in drugs and steroids. He is under investigation by the DEA. Marlene decides to end her relationship with Gary, but before she can he slips a “date rape” drug into a glass of wine and then rapes her.

A confrontation occurs at the apartment of Marlene's workout partner, Kim, and Pete is forced to take matters into his own hands to gain entry to the apartment. A violent struggle ensues between Pete, Marlene, and Gary. A shot is fired, but Gary is ultimately subdued, and DEA takes Gary into custody.

Marlene does win the Miss Illinois contest. She also begins a new relationship with Joe Murphy, a former Chicago cop whose wife was killed by a drunk driver. Murphy has not been with the Department for two years, working in a friend's tee shirt store.

Marlene and Pete are promoted to Detectives in the Chicago Police Gang Crimes Unit.

Prologue
"You got 'em covered Sal?" I was about to holster my weapon and move forward to cuff this guy when my whole world exploded! I heard the loud report of a weapon firing and felt a sledgehammer-like force strike me in the chest.

How could he have shot me? We had him triangulated, the bad guy at the apex, Sal and me at the base. After all, this guy had already dropped his weapon and was complying with my commands.

I'm hit, I thought..."Sal, Sal, I'm hit!"

But how? I saw this guy drop his gun. Did he pull another one that I missed?

Just then another shot, but I'm positive that it's not coming my way. What's happening...?

My vest saved me from serious injury; the kinetic energy of the round knocked the wind out of me and bruised my chest. But I'm alive…. Recovering some of my senses I see Sal standing over me.

"Help me up buddy."

Sal's not moving—something's wrong here. Sal has something in his hand—a gun, but it's not his police pistol.

"Sal, what's going on? Sal...”

Then the most intense pain that I have ever felt as I feel a bullet smash into my skull. The last thing that I remember is the smell of gunpowder, and then looking into Sal's eyes and feeling like I'm staring directly at Satan himself.
